Remnant 2: Best Weapon Mods That Can Be Crafted (5)

Highlights

  • Crafting Weapon Mods in Remnant 2 involves defeating bosses and using materials to create powerful supernatural devices.
  • Players can boost damage by upgrading guns with crafted Weapon Mods as they progress through the campaign or Adventure Mode.
  • Some of the best Weapon Mods in Remnant 2 include Creeping Mist, Knight Guard, and Ring of Spears for unique abilities and playstyles.

Just like in the first Remnant game, Remnant: From the Ashes, there are a whole lot of different Weapon Mods for players to craft in the hit 'soulslike with guns' game, Remnant 2. To do this, they'll first need to defeat some bosses, as Weapon Mods are made in this universe by taking some material from a defeated boss and bringing it back to McCabe so she can fashion it into some supernatural device.

23 Best Open-World Games With The Most Immersive Historical Settings

For true immersion, fans of historical settings should look no further than these great historical open-world video games.

Once that's done, players can then socket those Weapon Mods into any of their guns that have a space for it, be it a Hand Gun or Long Gun. And, as they trek through their Campaign (or Adventure Mode) and steadily upgrade their guns, these Weapon Mods will also deal more damage with every upgrade. So, with all that information out of the way, let's go over some of the best Weapon Mods players can craft in Remnant 2, why they're so good, and where players can find the materials for them.

Updated March 7th, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter: With a lot of players returning to Remnant 2 to check out the Aberration Domination Event as well as the Crossplay Update that just came out, it seemed like an apt time to talk about Weapon Mods. While this update does add a handful of new Corrupted Weapons, it sadly doesn't add any new Weapon Mods that aren't locked to a specific gun.

Still, Gunfire Games has been diligently supporting Remnant 2 this whole time, and a lot of Weapon Mods received a variety of small changes both for better or for worse. So, let's take another look at all the craftable Weapon Mods in this game to see which ones are the most useful overall.

15 Voltaic Rondure

Bloat King - Losomn

Leading the pack at the bottom of the rankings is Voltaic Rondure, a mod obtained from one of the most tedious bosses in Remnant 2, the Bloat King. The Bloat King is found in Losomn's Great Sewers, and while this isn't a difficult fight on the easier to middling difficulties, on Apocalypse especially, this fight is an absolute drag. However, if players overcome it, they'll be rewarded with the Voltaic Rondure Weapon Mod, which is obviously replicating the orbs of shock energy that 'powered' the Bloat King.

However, while this Weapon Mod is useful with the right build tailored around Weapon Mods or Elemental Damage, it requires some pretty niche circ*mstances to be amazing. Because this ball of Shock Energy doesn't follow targets but rather floats in one direction, it's only really useful in very small rooms with a lot of enemies. Thankfully, there are a lot of these types of rooms in the Awakened King DLC, so it'll at least be extra helpful there.

14 Creeping Mist

The Perfect Status Effect Mod For The Ritualist

Hex Wreath

Sunken Witch - Losomn (Awakened King DLC)

A whole lot of the new Rings, Weapons, Mutators, and Weapon Mods in the Losomn-based Awakened King DLC for Remnant 2 are centered around Status Effects. Players wanted a build that was focused around Elemental Damage and/or Status Effects ever since the game first came out back in July 2023.

Now they have that option thanks to the Ritualist Archetype, and the Creeping Mist Weapon Mod is one of the best options for that Archetype. Gained by beating the Sunken Witch mid-boss in the DLC content, the Hex Wreath (which is turned into the Creeping Mist Mod) is a debuff that simply makes Status Effects even stronger. Granted, the Ritualist builds are already melting enemies in the game by default, but add this Mist on top of it and it's no wonder the Archetype is so popular.

13 Knight Guard

Cremated Soul Ash

Walk of Rememberance (Red Prince's Crown) - Losomn (Awakened King DLC)

Summon builds in Remnant 2 are also very strong. Whether it's a build based around the Handler's Dog, the Summoner's Root Minions, or even the Engineer's Turret, Summon builds just tend to have a lot of damage, lifesteal, and survivability. And, the more Summons players can have active at once, the better. Up until the Awakened King DLC, the only 'real' options Summon-players had for Weapon Mods were Space Crabs, Rootlash, and Familiar.

But now, they can add Knight Guard into the mix, as this Mod conjures up two spectral swords that automatically attack any nearby enemies (both with melee and with ranged attacks). Their damage isn't mindblowing or anything like that, but they're very dependable summons, and they're also one of the only player-controlled elements of the game that can apply the Cursed status onto enemies.

12 Ring Of Spears

Wretched Skull

Bruin, Blade of the King - Losomn (Awakened King DLC)

Last up for the new Mods introduced in The Awakened King DLC, there's the Ring of Spears. Granted, this Weapon Mod can be a bit difficult to use, given that players are locked into a lot of small animations when they try to use it in the middle of combat. But, if players can time their inputs right, Ring of Spears is a very powerful Weapon Mod.

Think of it like the Ouroboros Weapon Mod that's attached to the Deceit Long Gun, except instead of reacting to melee damage, these Spears are player-controlled. Not only that, but the damage seems to be better, the rotating ring of weaponry is larger, and intelligent players can even make sure to line things up so that the Spears they recall back to them re-pass through enemies to deal even more damage.

Kaeula's Shadow - Yaesha

In Remnant: From the Ashes, players could slap together a 'summoner' sort of build using specific Weapon Mods, Rings, Amulets (self-obtained or traded), and other gear, but it was much less of a viable or realistic build than most of the other ones that game offered.

Thankfully the Archetype system in Remnant 2 introduces a literal Summoner class players can now start as, and Rootlash is one of the best Weapon Mods to use with it. For one, these 'root tentacles' count as Summons, which means anything that affects allies/summons will affect them, such as the Soul Guard Ring or the Soul Link Ring. Two, every hit they inflict on an enemy will heal the player for 1.5 percent of their max health, giving them so much more sustainability (especially when stacked with the Soul Link Ring). And three, they auto-target enemies, meaning players just need to fire them out and the tentacles will hunt on their own.

Cracked Shell

Primogenitor - N'Erud

Now it's time to talk about Space Crabs. These adorable little face-hugger summons are spawned from a Weapon Mod players receive after fighting the Trypophobia-inducing boss, the Primogenitor. Taking this Cracked Shell to McCabe will get them the Space Crabs mod, which has some interesting interactions. A couple of months ago (at the time of writing this) Space Crabs used to activate the Detonation Trigger amulet, which was incredible. Sadly, they did patch this out in an update not long after, but the Weapon Mod is still pretty good overall. The key thing about Space Crabs is the fact that it triggers equipment that mentions either summons or explosions, which can create some pretty unique builds.

Even just building this Weapon Mod around the 'summon' aspect, they're still pretty useful for just auto-hunting down any enemies players may have missed nearby or giving players some easy healing and/or stacks of Bulwark.

Root Mantis - Tutorial

Moving on to a bit more of a 'mundane' Weapon Mod, next up is Scrap Shot. This is one of the three Mods players can get for free after the tutorial in exchange for the Root Ganglia (or for 1500 Scrap) that was cut out of the tutorial boss, the Root Mantis.

If you love Warframe and are looking for similar games to sink your time into, these titles absolutely deserve a spot on your "must try" list.

While Scrap Shot may look like the worst option compared to the other two Ganglia options, Healing Shot and Concussive Shot, it really depends on the situation more than anything else. After all, the Slow Status Effect is absurdly powerful in Remnant 2, and Scrap Shot does this while also 'trapping' the Slowed enemy in a damage-over-time effect. While Items and Mods that inflict the Slow status are beaten out by the Stasis Status in the late/post-game, this Weapon Mod should help players fight the more difficult enemies for the majority of the game, if needed.

Root Ganglia (or 1,500 Scrap)

Root Mantis - Tutorial

While there is a Stagger stat in Remnant 2, it's not so prevalent that will be playing around it or 'building' their character to inflict as much Stagger as possible. Yes, the Awakened King DLC that came out for Remnant 2 did make builds focused around Stagger a bit more reliable, but they're still not usually recommended. This is because it's very difficult to reliably force enemies to stagger at all. However, Concussive Shot is one of the few methods by which players can do this, as a single Concussive Shot will heavily damage (and typically Stagger) most elite enemies.

However, the AoE of this Weapon Mod is somehow even bigger than it appears, and it's a friendly-fire nightmare in co-op, so that's worth keeping in mind or (at the very least) investing in something like the Kinship Trait, though that won't stop it from interrupting an ally's attacks.

Mutated Growth

Abomination - N'Erud

Sometimes an enemy will have a Weakspot in Remnant 2 that is simply difficult to reliably hit. The Dryzr 'zombies', for example, have these pulsing purple masses on different spots of their bodies (seemingly at random) that function as their Weakspots. If the Traveler manages to hit this purple mass, these zombie enemies usually go down in a single shot. But, if they miss their shot, then it takes a good amount more ammo to take them down. Another example is the One True King. This boss has a massive head, but his Weakspot is actually in his face/mouth (?) which can be very difficult to hit reliably.

With Bore, players can actually create these purple masses on any enemy, and while they're active those purple growths also count as an additional Weakspot area for players to aim at (though the damage is a bit less than it would be for a standard Weakspot). It's by far one of the best Craftable Weapon Mods for multiplayer, that's for sure.

Agnosia Driftwood

Legion - Yaesha

Players may be surprised by just how many status effects they have access to outside of the standard ones such as Fire, Shock, and Corrosive damage. Madness, for example, is another ailment (different from a Status Effect, it seems like) that's really only present during the Legion boss fight in Yaesha. However, after getting through this boss, players can use the piece of Driftwood it drops to craft the Fargazer Weapon Mod, which will allow them to inflict Madness on others.

Not only is the damage that enemies take from Madness when it's at max stacks pretty absurd, but the Fargazer Weapon Mod also makes it so easy to apply those ten stacks, as players just simply need to aim at the enemy-in-question with Fargazer active. It's a Mod that works well in a Ritualist Build, for example, since the damage the enemy will be taking from the Madness stacks will only add onto all the other Status Effect damage.

While it may not seem as 'exciting' as summoning a giant tornado of flame with Firestorm or spawning horrifying little creatures with Space Crabs, the Weapon Mods in Remnant 2 that infuse a player's gunfire with elemental damage are incredibly good, even more so after the release of the Awakened King DLC. For reference, these 'elemental ammo' Mods are Hot Shot, Overflow, and Corrosive Rounds Weapon Mods that give players Fire, Shock, and Corrosive damage on their bullets, for a time.

Years before the survival genre was so prominent, Rust bust became a staple. These are the games to check out if you miss the fight or flight feeling.

Not only are these Weapon Mods fantastic for a wide variety of builds from a pure damage standpoint, but many players aren't even aware that activating the Mod instantly reloads the player's clip, essentially allowing them to fire two entire clips for the low low price of one reload animation.

Venom - Root Earth

Moving on to a Weapon Mod that players (unfortunately) won't typically unlock until most of the way through their first playthrough, Skewer. This mod is crafted from an item that always spawns in the same place, as it is gained by defeating a boss called Venom in Root Earth, which is the last area of the game's campaign.

Still, for repeat runs, helping out in multiplayer, or just for players who got Skewer early by joining some random lobby that was fighting Venom, it's absolutely a Weapon Mod worth using all the way through the game. As an added fact, it turns out the actual 'size' of the Skewers seems to scale with the enemy hit by the Weapon Mod as well, which can be hilarious to see (and also very useful) on certain bosses such as Mother Mind. The AoE of this Mod, when those Skewers extend, can be massively helpful when fighting hordes, and the damage it puts out is nothing to scoff at either.

Eon Vault 'Zombie Cave' - N'Erud

The Slow Status Ailment in Remnant 2 really is absurd. It doesn't just 'slow' the enemy's attack animations, it slows down all of their animations to basically a crawl, which includes their movement in the air when they jump. And, with the Stasis Beam Weapon Mod, players can even go one step beyond Slowing an enemy to putting them in Stasis, freezing them completely. This, this Status Effect is actually straight-up overpowered.

And, it's somehow even more broken than it sounds, as enemies are stuck in this Stasis state for an entire 10 seconds, with players being able to re-apply the ailment right as it runs out as well, essentially trapping them in a frozen moment of time forever as players unload all their ammo into the enemies face.

Forlorn Fragment

The Red Prince - Losomn

By now Firestorm, obtained from the Red Prince, is likely the most 'recognizable' Weapon Mod in Remnant 2, and for good reason, it's one of the best Weapon Mods by default and is unequivocably overpowered in a Mod Power Generation-focused build.

Firestorm has great single-target damage, sucks enemies in, deals noticeable AoE damage, and synergizes with all sorts of Rings and other gear. The only downside of this Weapon Mod, really, is how detrimental it can be to a co-op ally. But, as long as the player using Firestorm maxes out Kinship, it's not quite as bad. Though it is still frustrating, given that the Firestorm sucks in nearby entities, ally and enemy alike.

Healing Shot

Support/Utility

600

Root Ganglia (or 1,500 Scrap)

Root Mantis - Tutorial

Some players may be surprised to see Healing Shot at the top of this list, given that it's one of the first Weapon Mods in the game. But, the ones that are surprised are likely only blown away because they haven't experienced the game on Apocalypse or Hardcore mode yet. It is very easy to get downed in Remnant 2, especially on the harder difficulties, and there are plenty of moments where players hesitate to use their Relic mid-fight so as not to waste them too early on.

Healing Shot is perfect in these moments to top a player's health off so that they don't get downed in one shot. Not only that, it's also a perfect Mod for a support player online (such as a Medic) and it's an almost mandatory tool for getting through Hardcore Mode alive.
