The NIH UNITE initiative was established to identify and address structural racism within the NIH-supported and the greater scientific community.

At NICHD, Dr. Mahadevan will enable the seamless integration of cutting-edge sequencing technologies including spatial transcriptomics and other emerging tools at the Molecular Genomics Core, by working closely with NICHD labs and the Bioinformatics Core.

NICHD Investigators and Fellows Lead Membrane and Organelle Dynamics Symposium

Matthias Machner, Ph.D., NICHD Senior Investigator of the Section on Microbial Pathogenesis, chaired the recent Membrane and Organelle Dynamics Symposium on April 30. This was the second symposium of the newly renamed Membrane and Organelle Dynamics SIG, formerly known as the Protein Trafficking and Organelle Dynamics IG. The event celebrated the SIG's new name and highlighted excellent NIH research. Presenters from 10 ICs (NICHD, NCI, NIDDK, NHLBI, NIBIB, NINDS, NIA, NIDCR, NIEHS, NHGRI) and USUHS participated.

Notably, NICHD postdoctoral fellow Saikat Ghosh, Ph.D. (pictured right, with SIG steering committee member Orna Cohen-Fix, Ph.D.), of the Section on Intracellular Protein Trafficking, received an award for best poster.

2024 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS)

OPM has announced the dates for the2024 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS), which is scheduled to run the week of May 20 through the week of July 5th. Be on the lookout for more information as we kick off the 2024 FEVS season!

Please mark your calendars and save the date for the 2024 NICHD Intramural Scientific Retreat which will be held on Friday, September 27th in the Porter Neuroscience Building (35).

Travel Reminders

  1. All FTE travelers are required to obtain the IBA Travel card.
  2. Leave must be approved in ITAS when leave is taken in conjunction with TDY.
  3. Non-FTE travelers must receive approval via email or memo.
  4. Government Furnished Equipment is not issued to travelers going on vacation to a foreign country.

Annual Mandatory IT Training (All Personnel):

NEW: The 2024 NIH Information Security and Management Refresher Training has been released. This training is required to be completed by all NICHD personnel who access NIH IT resources, including programs, systems, or equipment. The NICHD deadline to complete the training is July 31, 2024.

Please note that new personnel who onboarded between October 1, 2023, and May 15, 2024 and successfully completed their new hire training do not need to take annual IT refresher training until the 2025 training cycle.

To access this training:

  • Go to the NIH IT Security and Information Management Training Portal:https://irtsectraining.nih.gov/
  • Log in using your NED/HHS ID (10-digit number on back of badge) and confirm your identity.
  • Select and launch the refresher training: 2024 Information Security, Insider Threats, Privacy Awareness, Records Management, Emergency Preparedness, Rules of Behavior
  • Complete all six training modules.
  • Once complete, you will see the word ‘YES’ to the right of the refresher training title on the IT Security System’s main page.
